Hey there! It's me, Meg.
GET TO KNOW ME A LITTLE BETTER
Being a licensed cosmetologist allows me to help make our community a more beautiful place. Nothing compares to the way a person walks when they are feeling confident. Knowing that through my creative passion, I helped give them some of that confidence, is a great feeling. To me, that feeling is priceless.
Becoming a cosmetologist was written in the stars long before I was born. I used to get up early to watch my grandma work in her salon. Both of my grandmas were licensed cosmetologists; combined they have over 70 years of experience! As I grew, so did my desire to join the industry. While in high school, I made a science project using all cosmetics & gave a speech about the history of hair. My first job at 15 was as a salon receptionist. I invested hours of my time there listening & watching. I asked many questions, trying to absorb the cosmetologist’s knowledge. I imagine that this has played a role in my passion to continue to learn about my craft.
As a guest of mine, you will always receive my honest and kind input as we map out your short and long-term hair goals, and our consultation will be comprehensive. We will cover everything from product knowledge to maintenance expectations, to the application. I love the intersectionality of science and artistry that comes with hair color formulation and placement.
The passion I have for my craft is hard to hide & absolutely overflows into my guest experience. Everyone in my chair is an individual and is treated as such. From products suggested, to color used, to placement execution; I tailor the appointment to match my guest’s specific needs. My guests love that I nerd out explaining the how, what, and why of their color and cut. I also share product knowledge & styling tips in addition to the rich, multidimensional colors and confidence they leave with.
I am very committed to continuing my education. I pride myself on the wide range of classes I take to elevate myself and the guests in my chair. I am most proud of the knowledge I have gained from The Dress Code Project, All Hair Academy, and The Beauty Collective. These masterminds and I share a core belief:
Our industry must evolve to be more diverse, radically inclusive, and completely affirming.
I love to encourage my guests to find time to invest in themselves. I try my best to follow the advice too. When I have time to myself I indulge in Real Housewives, time with friends (usually including a drink and copious amounts of queso), and audiobooks. When I am not reading kids' books, I tend to gravitate toward non-fiction though I am dabbling into fiction more and more. Also, I keep a selection of my personal books, along with a few purchased library books, at the salon to lend out. I also find a lot of joy in volunteering and giving back to our community. This is especially true when I get to use my God-given passions and talents to uplift others.
I share my life with my husband, Chase, our kids, Lochlan and Elodie, our old mutt, Apollo, and energetic pup, Iris. Our family moved from Central Iowa to the Columbia area in the Spring of 2021.
When I am not in the salon, I am typically juggling kids' activities and trying to convince my husband to make all of my home projects come true. As a family, we enjoy STEAM activities, Uno, Pride festivals, attending activities at our church, and snuggling in with the pups for a family movie night.
